TV Shows You Shouldn't Miss (Pt. 1)

There has been quite a lot of quality TV programs coming from America to Europe in the last couple of years, and as someone who really, really likes watching TV shows (not on TV though, I always end up missing half the episodes), it's not an easy feat picking a few to follow. This is why I chose to post a recommendation of 5 very different shows I like, old and new, and if you've missed any of these, you know you've ...

Zoe Heller - Notes on a Scandal Book Review

Having seen and loved the film version of Zoe Heller's critically acclaimed novel Notes on a Scandal (What Was She Thinking?), I am not sure why it's taken me such a long time to read the novel. And I didn't read it - I devoured it.The story is narrated by an older woman named Barbara Covett, a bitter aging spinster who works as a high school teacher. She tells the story of Sheba Hart, her colleague from school, ...

Dorian Gray Trailer

Definitely my most anticipated movie of 2009. Although I would prefer Dorian blond, I must say Ben Barnes looks pretty darn good in this trailer. I just hope it won't be simply a horror flick with loads of special effects and that they have respected the bo ...

Self-Help

Have you ever read a self-help book? I sure have! And no, I've never read "Secret", which is one of the best-selling self-help books ever, but I've read some similar ones. Of course, the reason I'm telling you this is because I am shielded by the distance the Internet can provide. There is a general opinion that self-help books are pathetic, not to mention the people who read them. I beg to differ. Why would taking a ...

viciousworld. is coming back!

After a month or two of being put on hold, I decided to keep updating this blog, and maybe even make a change or two when it comes to the format of posts, the layout of the blog, etc... Although I don't want this to become my personal journal, the posts will be a bit more down-to-earth and simpler. This will allow me to post more often and make the posts more engaging. Also, I really want to make socializing with readers and/or blog buddies my top priority, so I will pay closer attention to the email address associated with this blog (rebelprince89@live.com), as well as my twitter account (the icon is to the right).Any feedback would be much appreciated, guys. Thanks for reading!N. x ...

My heroes!

As you may have noticed, I love making lists. They are tidy, it gets everything out on the page, and are easy and fun to read. So, why not make one today?Lately, I've been thinking of what I wanna do in life. I wasn't thinking about it in practical terms, simply what I think would be awesome to do and how much fun it would be. That's when it hit me - not only did someone already do every single one of this things, I could actually name these people. It seems like our ambitions depend on our experience - in other words, when we see someone doing something we perceive as great, we naturally want to follow in their footsteps. So, here's my list of five inspirational people!Madonna -For someone ...

To comment or not to comment?

...and, if you ever start to feel too good about yourself, they have this thing called the Internet! You can find a lot of people there who don't like you! I'd like to address some of them now! BabsonLacrosse, you can suck it. DianeFan, you can suck it. Cougar Letter, you can really suck it 'cause you've been after me all year.-Tina FeyInternet has become a mecca for people who love writing (hey there!), singing, acting, or just bitching, but have never before had a medium to use. And of course, it's a great place to go if you ever feel inferior - there's a whole bunch of untalented people out there, just waiting for your harsh comments.Lately, I've been obsessed with a girl on YouTube, mirandasings08. ...

Twinkle, twinkle, little star...

I was watching a Britney Spears documentary on E! today, and was surprised by how I was unable to look away from the screen. Of course, everyone knows everything about Britney - all the way from Baby One More Time to her latest doings. So why was I so transfixed by the program?I think the answer lies in the phenomenon of child stars, and what a curse it is to be one. And Britney is a perfect example - she was America's sweetheart at the age of 16, however, as she grew older, she evolved into a laughing stock, filling the pages with paparazzi photos of herself drunk, bald, and temporarily married. Finally, she even lost the custody on her children. And it's not just Britney - you also have Lindsay ...

Bitch, please.

There is a phenomenon nowadays that I find absolutely hilarious. It's how the meanings of certain words have shifted - they are now wider, so some words that were sometimes considered taboo or mean are now perfectly okay to use in certain contexts.Take for example, The Flintstones. In the closing credits, they sing about having a gay old time. Now isn't this funny? Nowadays, no one in their right mind would use the word gay as a synonym for fun. And now when you think of other places this word has appeared, it's just awkward. The Gay Divorcee, for example. Also, what about the word bitch? Not so long ago, this word was considered a full-on derogatory word, just like the f*word is today. But now, ...

Why musicals are awesome.

Last night, I saw a wonderful, light French musical Les Chansons d'Amour (Love Songs). Being a huge fan of musicals, I do not understand when people think of them as a lower form of theatre/movie genre. These people probably only saw one or two musicals in their lives, and those were probably too old-fashioned for them to love and get interested in this genre. The Sound of Music, for example, is a great family movie, but certainly not enough to make you want to explore that section of your DVD rental. In truth, the musical is a genre so complex and gripping, once you start watching it, you'll never go back. So, here's a list of 5 very different musicals, and I guarantee that you will like at ...
